FAQ
Who is Studio A N F?
Studio A N F is a Berlin-based studio creating generative, realtime and interactive systems for physical space. The studio develops computational artworks for architecture, media façades, LED installations and immersive environments using generative software, realtime graphics, sensing and artificial intelligence.
Founded by Andreas Nicolas Fischer in 2008, Studio A N F has delivered permanent and temporary projects internationally. Recent work includes Hyundai Headquarters Seoul, Volkswagen Group / CARIAD at IAA Mobility 2025, 1275K Washington DC and MIXC Hangzhou.
Where is Studio A N F based?
Studio A N F is based in Berlin, Germany and works internationally. Projects are developed in collaboration with architects, developers, art consultants, brands, media integrators and local production teams around the world.
Who founded Studio A N F?
Andreas Nicolas Fischer founded Studio A N F in Berlin in 2008. Fischer is a media artist and generative designer and studied at the Berlin University of the Arts. His work with computational and generative systems began in 2007.
What is media architecture?
Media architecture integrates digital media into the physical and spatial experience of a building. This can include LED façades, large architectural displays, atriums, lobbies and other surfaces designed as permanent parts of the architecture.
Studio A N F approaches these surfaces as computational environments. Instead of relying on a fixed sequence of prerecorded content, the studio can create realtime systems that generate and evolve continuously as part of the building.
What is a generative media façade?
A generative media façade is an architectural display driven by software rather than a fixed video timeline. Algorithms, simulations and computational rules continuously determine what appears on the surface, allowing the artwork to produce new visual states over time.
Studio A N F's projects for MIXC Hangzhou and Hyundai Headquarters Seoul are examples of generative systems developed specifically for architectural LED surfaces.
What does a media architecture commission cost?
Site-specific architectural commissions typically begin around 30,000 EUR and increase according to the scale of the installation, software complexity, display geometry, sensing or data requirements, technical integration and commissioning requirements.
Each architectural project is quoted individually after reviewing the location, display system, intended behaviour and production scope. Licensing of existing artworks is handled separately from custom commissions.
What is the difference between generative art and AI art?
Generative art is created through systems of rules, algorithms, simulation, probability and other computational processes defined by the artist. AI-generated art uses trained neural networks such as GANs or diffusion models to generate or transform visual information.
Studio A N F works with both. The studio has developed rule-based generative systems since 2007 and neural generative work since 2018. In contemporary projects, AI can become one component within a larger realtime system rather than defining the work by itself.
What does AI mean in Studio A N F's practice?
AI is treated as a computational material rather than a visual genre. Neural models can generate imagery, interpret camera input, transform data or influence the behaviour of a realtime environment.
The model is usually only one layer of the system. Realtime graphics, simulation, sensing and custom software determine how the installation behaves continuously in physical space.
Does Studio A N F use AI image generators?
Yes, where they are appropriate to the project. The studio works with diffusion models, GANs and other neural techniques, but generally builds them into broader computational pipelines rather than using prompting as the finished production method.
Models can run as part of realtime installations, interact with generative graphics or respond to cameras, sensors and live data.
Can AI run locally without cloud services?
Yes. Where reliability, privacy or long-term operation requires it, neural models can run directly on the installation hardware. This removes dependency on external APIs and allows data and model inference to remain within the local system.
What software does Studio A N F use?
Studio A N F primarily works with TouchDesigner, Unreal Engine, GLSL, GPU computation and custom software. AI workflows can incorporate ComfyUI, diffusion models, StreamDiffusion and other neural tools.
The technology is selected according to the visual concept, hardware, resolution, latency and operational requirements of each project rather than determining the aesthetic in advance.
Can I hire Studio A N F for TouchDesigner development?
Yes, although Studio A N F typically works on complete realtime and generative systems rather than software development in isolation. Projects can include TouchDesigner development, custom shaders, simulation, computer vision, sensing, media-server integration and deployment.

Does Studio A N F create interactive installations?
Yes. Interactive systems can use cameras, spatial tracking, sensors, environmental information and live data to influence generative environments in realtime.
Interaction can range from direct responses to individual movement to more ambient systems that adapt gradually to audience activity or changing environmental conditions.
Can interactive installations operate without storing personal data?
Yes. Camera-based systems can extract abstract information such as position, movement, direction and occupancy without using facial recognition or storing personally identifiable imagery. Where required, computer vision can also run entirely on local installation hardware.
Can realtime generative installations run permanently?
Yes. Studio A N F develops permanent systems for unattended operation on dedicated media hardware. Installations can include automatic startup, recovery, remote monitoring and maintenance so that they operate as part of the building rather than requiring daily playback management.
Five realtime environments developed for 1275K in Washington DC have operated as part of the building's permanent media installation since 2022.
Can Studio A N F work with our LED integrator or architect?
Yes. Studio A N F regularly collaborates with architects, LED integrators, media consultants, art consultants and local technical teams. The studio can develop the artwork and computational system while specialist partners provide display hardware, structural engineering and local installation infrastructure.
The studio can join a project with an existing technical specification or collaborate during the design phase before the media system has been finalised.
Does Studio A N F work internationally?
Yes. Studio A N F is based in Berlin and works internationally, with projects delivered across Europe, Asia, North America and South America. On-site commissioning can be provided where required, while development and technical coordination can also take place remotely with local partners.
Does Studio A N F take commissions?
Yes. The studio accepts commissions for media architecture, realtime environments, interactive systems, generative artworks and AI-driven adaptive media.
For a project inquiry, email the studio with the location, intended installation, timeline and any available information about the display or spatial context.
Does Studio A N F sell generative prints?
